Great Smoky Mountains National Park straddles the Tennessee and North Carolina line and is the most visited national park in the country. The Tennessee side has busy tourist towns and theme parks, the North Carolina side has quieter mountain towns and river rafting. Leaves usually turn first on the highest ridges in early October and move down to the valleys by late October or early November. The timing shifts every year.
