History and heritage in Asheville and Southern NC Mountains
Asheville is the region's biggest city, with a lively downtown and the Biltmore Estate. Around it are Pisgah National Forest waterfalls, the highest peak in the East, and apple orchards in Henderson County. Old mills, mountain music and Cherokee history are all part of the story of these hills. Many of these sites are small and worth a slow visit.
