Skyline Drive follows the crest of the ridge here, with a long string of overlooks and short trails to waterfalls. Caverns, ski slopes and the vineyards around Charlottesville are close to the Drive. Apple season runs through the fall, with pick-your-own rows, cider and farm stores. Henderson County in North Carolina and Fannin and Gilmer counties in Georgia are known for it.
