This stretch has the Appalachian Trail's famous ledges, old mills along the Parkway, and the wild ponies of Grayson Highlands. Small towns here are known for traditional mountain music. Apple season runs through the fall, with pick-your-own rows, cider and farm stores. Henderson County in North Carolina and Fannin and Gilmer counties in Georgia are known for it.
