Skiing and snow in Roanoke and Southwest Virginia
This stretch has the Appalachian Trail's famous ledges, old mills along the Parkway, and the wild ponies of Grayson Highlands. Small towns here are known for traditional mountain music. Several resorts in Virginia and North Carolina make snow and keep slopes open through the winter. Many also offer tubing for people who would rather not ski.
