Mountain towns in Shenandoah and Central Virginia
Skyline Drive follows the crest of the ridge here, with a long string of overlooks and short trails to waterfalls. Caverns, ski slopes and the vineyards around Charlottesville are close to the Drive. Walkable main streets with shops, restaurants and galleries make a good rest-day option. Each town has its own character.
